Mining Town Keep

The Keep was probably the most challenging of all the architecture I did for my Mining Town Brief, mixing Brutalist and Gothic styles together. For this I modeled the central building in Blender and kitbashed some gothic architecture into it. I then manually painted texture in Photoshop which may seem laborious compared to doing it in 3d. Having just started Blender that time, I found UV unwrapping and texturing fairly complicated.

For the first pass I painted in a snowy environment for the Keep to sit on. From the feedback session, I was reminded that the environment was hostile and having the Keep on a bright sunny day made it seem out of place. Indeed it was. Thanks to Tyler he guided me on how easily to adjust the scene from a sunny weather to a darker, more hostile one. The rest was painting in atmosphere and light emitting from some of the windows. And now that makes me just want to cozy up inside the Keep with warm mead and a fire burning in the hearth, than go prancing about under clear skies.
